Trying to capture the sun…

Contrary to what the average person with his smartphone thinks, capturing a great sunset or sunrise isn’t the easiest thing to do (if you don’t believe that, try to enlarge and print one of those pics you’ve taken with your phone that looks good on social media!) By no means am I a great landscape photographer, and I could have used the polarizer that I left at home to help out, but you gotta give it a shot with what you’ve got. These were some of my favorites from the trip (and yes, some are repeats from earlier posts…)

The Grand Canyon…

The Grand Canyon was the first “big” National Park I had the chance to visit and I certainly was not disappointed. While it was hot and it rained – and I mean it rained – while I was there, I still had a great time walking along the South Rim of the Canyon.

jclroadtripgcsunset0596The first spot that I stopped at after entering the Grand Canyon was the Desert View Watchtower – what a great way to get introduced to this Park. The structure itself is something else, but the views give you an idea of what’s to come. (The first pic is of the Watchtower itself, the second is from the top of the Watchtower and the third is from closer to sunset and was taken from Navajo Point).

Everything you see in the Grand Canyon is just layered upon layered and one of the things I enjoyed the most is that nothing looks the same.

I can’t say as I’ve ever seen myself as being afraid of heights, but I was absolutely hesitant to get too close to the edge of the Rim. Some people, however, didn’t have this same issue…

Another one of my favorite parts of visiting the Grand Canyon was to see the effect that light had on the structures and their layers. As can be seen in the pic above and the photos below, a setting sun can really have a brilliant effect on it all…

And then there was this little guy, who wasn’t affected by anything whatsoever…
