Greensburg Salem Homecoming 2014

Homecoming is a special time at all high schools across the country – and Greensburg Salem’s is certainly no different. It’s great to see alums returning for a game and it’s always wonderful to see those who represent our school shine their brightest. Part of what sets Greensburg Salem’s Homecoming apart, however, is the city setting for our stadium, the parade through town, and also alums taking part in the opening festivities with the Band. What a great time, and what a beautiful night!

Congrats to all of the members of the 2014 Greensburg Salem Homecoming Court as well as all of those who work so hard to pull this event off — and thank you to all who take the time to return home!

Brittany’s Senior Project…

A former student of mine, who just so happens to also be my neighbor, asked if I’d be willing to take pics of her Senior Project — a dance competition that she organized and was overseeing. Admittedly, I was a little hesitant. I can’t say as dance is something that typically catches my attention, so I just wasn’t sure. A little reluctantly, I agreed, and I am so happy that I did – I was thoroughly impressed all around – from her overseeing of the event to the talent that performed – it was a really, really great thing to see!

Greensburg Salem presents Footloose

I had the opportunity to catch the dress rehearsal of Greensburg Salem’s production of the hit musical Footloose and was unbelievably impressed! I’m guessing that you’ve seen one of the movie versions of this, and I can assure you that the musical is just as good. Make sure to check it out either this Thursday, Friday or Saturday at 7:30 or Sunday at 2! Below are some previews from the show. Two galleries of photos from the show can be found by clicking on Galleries above, then you’ll see the link taking you there. All proceeds benefit the GSHS Yearbook Staff.

Inspiration…

As a teacher, I speak with my students about inspiration and the need for it on an almost daily basis. We find our inspirations in all different forms – from the masters, sure, but also from the innovators – those who are out there imagining and then putting themselves out there for all to see. We find it in museums and galleries, on the streets and an infinite amount of sites online. We all have our favorite forms, but sometimes it’s just as awesome to come upon something simply by chance…

Never has it been easier to find inspiration — between flickr and Pinterest, Facebook and 500px, Twitter and whatever else floats your boat, it’s just really easy to find some absolutely incredible work. It was through twitter that I recently was introduced to the time lapse photography of Brad Oskowski, or as his website is known, Charlie Moscow. A student at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Brad specializes in “videography, video editing and motion graphics” according to his site – and from what can be seen in the video below, it appears that he has quite the future.

I’ve never dabbled in working with time lapsed images, but I can surely tell you that my curiosity has been stoked after watching this, “Steel City Sights: A Pittsburgh Time Lapse Project.”

A visit to the National Aviary…

I had the opportunity to visit the National Aviary on the North Side of Pittsburgh yesterday and had an absolutely incredible time. I’m not really sure why I’ve never gone before, but it was just awesome. We had a tour orchestrated by Janet — and if you go, make sure that you get Janet to take you around — she is just flat out incredibly knowledgeable and so excited to share this knowledge. I can’t speak highly enough of everybody else who works at the National Aviary, either. Get there — you won’t regret it!
