Vacation Hodge Podge – 2012

Just a couple more from my recent getaway…

We had a great time visiting Middleburg, Virginia – much like the pics below from Occoquan, these small little towns seem like the towns that time forgot. And I mean that in a good way!

Two great little towns worth a visit if you’re in the DC area.

This bank of pay phones is inside the East Building of the National Gallery of Art – and they weren’t part of an exhibit – don’t see these too much anymore.

I always try to get to the Newseum as well – Karly reported the “news” from outside the White House. (Plus, according to one bystander, she has a great reporter hairstyle!)

Sections of the Berlin Wall. I’ve posted these in the past, but there’s just something that resonates with me.

Early summer…

One of the things that I’ve been looking forward to this summer is the opportunity to just wander – to look at things from different angles, to try new things – you know the deal. We’ll get started with some observations…

I can’t get enough of the Westmoreland County Courthouse – the building is just absolutely, incredibly beautiful – and I love finding new ways of looking at it…

Again, just changing some angles and the focus — pretty cool ways to look at the same thing differently.

I’ll admit it – I was shocked to see this in Greensburg – but loved it nonetheless.

Perhaps it was just the time in my life when the Berlin Wall fell, but it’s always been of interest to me. The Newseum in Washington, D.C. has a section of it that includes this graffiti by Indiano. This was as seen on the West German side – the opposite side was completely blank – which shouldn’t come as a surprise.

From the Pennsylvania Avenue Terrace at the Newseum. A whole lot of lines…

Perhaps the best view of the Capitol – also from the Pennsylvania Avenue Terrace.

I really enjoyed getting this group of kids getting their photo taken in front of the Capitol building.

No trip to D.C. would be complete for me without visiting the National Gallery of Art. If you haven’t been to see it, you’re truly missing out. Chuck Close has long been one of my favorites, and catching this mother as she explained to her daughter that the entire painting was made from fingerprints was priceless.

Capped the evening off by catching John Lee and Caveman, as they performed in the National Gallery of Art’s Jazz in the Garden series — incidentally, Lee is the guitarist. Held in the National Gallery’s Sculpture Garden on Friday nights, the Jazz concerts are a tremendous way to get your weekend started.
